Routine Oil Changes are one of the most important things owners 

can do to extend the operating life of their vehicle and maintain its warranty.

Vehicle engines have many moving parts that while in operation, move and rub against each other; this movement and the force of friction create heat. Oil lubricates the engine and absorbs heat, allowing the internal parts to work together efficiently without overheating.

Over time, engine oil breaks down and wears out. When it does, it becomes less effective at lubricating the motor, removing contaminants, and absorbing heat. In fact, oil performs 19 different duties within your engine – it does so much more than just lubricate.

The frequency in which the oil should be changed depends on many factors. Driving behaviour, age, climate, as well as any common mechanical issues can contribute to the number of annual oil changes your vehicle requires. Recommendations in the marketplace and manufacturers operating guides range from 3,000 – 10,000kms; however, for most vehicles an oil change every 5,000kms is recommended. 

Any oil change schedule should follow the manufacturer’s suggested replacement intervals while a new car warranty is in effect. Further, many manufacturers specify a particular grade and rating of oil. Failure to follow these requirements correctly will void your warranty. Remember, most areas of Canada qualify for the “severe service” schedule because of our harsh climate.
